Summer Camp Update, Mount Hood, OR
The temperatures on Mt Hood took a change for the better on Friday with a weather system moving in cooling the hot temperatures that sent us swimming in the glacial run-off in the afternoon on Wednesday.  Four days of SL drills and one day of GS rounded out the first half of the camp.  As we inch closer to September cooler sub 0 C temperatures are expected with solid snow conditions and no salting of the hill necessary.

K1 Westerns, Manitoba on Podium & Top 10

Towering above the town of Banff, Mt. Norquay's slopes gave up a silver medal in the combi event (a mix between slalom and giant slalom) to 12-year-old East St. Paul skier Tori Hislop of the Summit Ski Club (Spring Hill Winter Park) at the recent Western Canadian K1 championships.

The Grade 7 student at Robert Andrews School competed against 60 of the top 11- and 12-year-old female alpine ski racers from Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C.

"Going out there I had a goal, and it was always to make the top 10, and I accomplished that goal," she said. "I was always scouting out the competition, and I thought I could take them. It just seemed that I work just as hard as them, and my coaching is just as good."

Sara Telles-Langdon, 11, also of Summit, skied to a personal best of 24th in the Kinder combi. Summit's Evan Madill's best result was also the combi where he ranked 40th, and Brandon's (Assessippi Ski Club) Gage Martinook skied to a top 10 in the slalom, earning a ninth overall and 16th in the Kombi.

Rules Clarification
With the advent of single pole slalom for 2009-10 racing season, we have had many questions regarding the proper use and interpretation of the new rules. Considering the various methods of the rule interpretation, many of the leaders in the alpine community worked to develop the attached document that should clarify the understanding of the rules and how to implement them in your training and racing environment.  Thanks to USSA's Dan Chayes, FIS TD & coach from Pennsylvania for his simplistic and artistic creativity.

  Mid-America Series Highlights:  Horbas/Stockford vault into 80's

Steven Horbas of the MAST and Alexis Stockford of La Riviere had a Super start to the weekend on Friday with Stockford ending up in 21st at the end of the day getting a few 80 point results in GS on Moose Mtn @ Lutsen.  This was the second day for Alexis getting a carreer result, while she finished in the top 15 on Thursday.  Horbas, salvaging respectability out of the GS events, was able to but the gas peddle down and get one result in the 80's.  The SL's at Spirit Mtn are slated for the weekend, where if you don't attack, you end up 3 seconds off of your normal pace!  The mid-america series has developed the likes of Lyndsey Vonn and is an extremely competitive series.

Marquette Mid-Am FIS SL

Alexandrea Murray (38th) and Steven Horbas (40th) topped the results for the MAST and their recent trip to Marquette, MI and two FIS SL races.  The International events held on "Rocket" had the same vertical as Asessippi and made the MAST feel right at home, in some cases too comfortable.  Simple errors kept the Team from having an amazing weekend, but each MAST member came away with either a job well done or a good benchmark on where they need to go next.
